Cheek Bumps

Rich G.Participant
So we’re getting ready to go on vacation & Indigo (8 months) develops a lump on his right cheek. It’s about the size of a marble & you can roll it around & doesn’t seem to hurt. Worried that it might be an infected cyst & I don’t want it getting worse on vacation, I take him the emergency vet. She aspirates it & doesn’t find any bad stuff in it, but says when we get back we should have it surgically removed. It stayed about the same for the week we were on vacation & took him to a surgeon when we got back. This vet, older, wiser examines the bump & says I’m not taking that out! I asked what it was and he has no clue but speculated that it could be a lymph node even though dogs don’t have them there. Then he added when he was in vet school they were dissecting a dog head & he found a similar mass in the same spot as Indigo’s lump and the professor concluded it was a lymph node. Since then the right side has gone away and the left side got a lump & then it went away. Is this just another Weim trick or what? Any info would be appreciated. Thks, it’s good to be back.
BasGModeratorHmm, it is kinda hard to judge without pictures. Both of mine have a little lump on both their cheeks. But not the size of marbles though.

MyaModeratorMy friend just told me something that sounded exactly the same but with her cat. Let me ask her about the details again…… I forgot part of it.

Rich G.ParticipantBas G’s picture is the correct location thks. I just checked Indi again and the lumps are about the size of a pea. The one on his left cheek is smaller. Both are can be nudged in all directions but go back to the original spot. Strange things. I find it odd the the vets don’t know what they are. It does seem like it may be peculiar to Weims. Thanks again.
MyaModeratorI just remembered… I used to have a lump along my jaw (I was around 12). It moved around but returned to the same spot. You could not really see it but definitely feel it. We asked the doctor who had no clue and send me home. We asked the dentist who had no clue and send me home. Every visit we asked again, nobody had a clue. It was there for a few years and then disappeared to never come back. I am still alive! It just sounds very much the same…

BasGModeratorMy Labs used to have them very noticeably, but usually it stands out more on short furred dogs. I noticed the same with a Beagle, recently.
