It’s that time of year when the ticks come out and we all battle keeping those pesky bugs at bay against our pups. I hate using chemicals on Jaeger so I have researched and experimented with a making my own tick/flea/mosquito spray. Do you know why we have to put tick/flea meds on our dogs back and between the shoulder blades?? Because its toxic and can make our pups sick if they ingest it. Sorry, but I don’t want that stuff near Jaeger or my kid. What happens when she pets him and then puts her hands in her mouth? Ick.
Anyways, if anyone is interested, I use this recipe and its worked great! It’s all natural but the only downfall is that you have to spray your pup with it every time you are going outside for any extended period of time. Much like we would with mosquito spray when outdoors all day. It costs around $10-$15 to make enough for the whole summer. To me, its worth it if it means I don’t have to put chemicals on my pet. AND it smells good! LOL
1 cup water
2 cups organic apple cider vinegar (ticks cant stand the acidity of ACV)
2 tbsp. sweet almond oil (almond oil contains sulfur and repels many different insects like mosquitos)
2 tbsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice (Mosquitos HATE citrus)
Mix together, pour into a clean/empty spray bottle, shake well and spritz on your dogs fur when going outdoors for an extended period of time. Reapply every few hours if needed or if the dog gets wet.
Happy Summer everyone!!
