I feel so bad, we are now pesticiding Tyson up twice a month, Revolution for heartworm on the 1st and Advantix for ticks on the 15th–there is a tick infestation here this year and given the number of dogs who have been affected, our vet said it is worth the chemicals, particularly since we are out in the fields where the deer live and all kinds of bugs thrive every day. The Advantix is concerning because it is so toxic that it is dangerous for the cats for 24 hours after application, but last year we had a Lyme disease scare with the boy and the testing was extremely expensive.
Last year we used Revolution for heart worm and a eucalyptus / tea tree oil / cedar spray which he hated but worked fairly well on keeping the deer flies and deep woods bugs at bay.
I know! There was no standing for the window sill trauma; two seconds and those puppy teeth made a mess of it. I am trying to remember when that last picture was taken, but it was just as he was becoming full grown and happily home destruction is (almost) a thing of the past. We just last week took down the baby gate to keep him out of the laundry room (and the cat litter boxes) and so far, so good (although I am sure I am jinxing myself). He did try to engage me one night when I was on a deadline a week or so ago and as punishment for me ignoring him, he gummed one of my shoes until it was soaking wet and brought it to me to reconsider.
What do you give Scout for tick / flea / heartworm? We have a tick outbreak here and our vet has just decided the tick meds are now worth the side effects and the biggest side effect is vomiting. Lots of bile and grass eating for the last 12 hours, but it is subsiding now so that would be consistent. Hope Scout us feeling better and I am sure the snuggling helps tremendously.
That’s amazing. I was learning behaviourism in undergrad and tried it out on my, then, old and sole cat for mealtime. Although that cat has since gone on, my others all learned from him and it still works, without any conditioning whatsoever!
When Tyson’s tail was injured, we would call when one of us was at the end of the driveway to make sure he didn’t get so excited he hit his happy tail on something. Now, more than six months later, whenever he hears the phone ring and one of us isn’t home, he goes absolutely nuts. So much for good intentions…
It is actually really comforting to read this, BasG. Assuming every physical cause is ruled out, then we can work on it. I wonder if there is such a thing as ‘only child syndrome’ in weims and if it is possible we just pay too much attention to him.
So glad to find you, too! I saw the link on the WA facebook page and remembered how hard I laughed at your original posts on the best guesses on how to pronounce “weimaraner”. I was hoping it was you, and lo and behold, it was!
I knew my husband was marriage material when he helped our older Siamese cat out by pulling a once-white piece of ribbon out of her. She loved him intensely from that day forward!
